Tour Description

Departing from Porto, embark on an authentic wine experience in the heart of the Douro Valley at the historic Quinta da Avessada.

Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed before beginning your journey in the Enoteca gardens, where a glass of white Moscatel is served to the sound of traditional accordion music. Surrounded by vineyards, the experience continues with grape harvesting in the fields, accompanied by the rhythms of Douro folk music, followed by transport to the traditional wine press.

A regional Douro lunch follows, prepared in classic iron pots and rooted in generations of culinary tradition — a true celebration of local gastronomy and hospitality. After lunch, return to the wine press to take part in the age-old ritual of grape stomping, embracing one of the Douro’s most cherished winemaking customs.

The visit continues in the Enoteca space, where an honorary Moscatel is served while you discover the full vinification process behind Moscatel and Port wines. Located on the Favaios plateau at 600 meters above sea level, Quinta da Avessada sits at the highest and flattest point of the Douro Demarcated Region. Spanning 1,000 hectares — 90% planted with the Moscatel Galego grape — the estate is the birthplace of the renowned Moscatel de Favaios.

Built with native wood and shale, the estate blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, where vineyards stretch toward the horizon and merge with distant mountains
