Tour Description

A unique site that explores the history of Prohibition in the United States, from the social and political causes that led to it to its cultural effects and ultimate repeal, is the Savannah American Prohibition Museum. This interactive and instructive museum, which is housed in Savannah's City Market, features historical displays, artefacts, and even a speakeasy-style bar where visitors may sip traditional cocktails.

A guided tour of the American Prohibition Museum is guaranteed to increase your understanding of this amazing period in American history, regardless of whether you've visited us before or have only ever taken a self-guided tour.

You will meet your guide, who will transport you back to early 1900s America while the country struggles with the "alcohol problem." Your guide will be costumed historically accurate for the time period. An enormous national movement to outlaw alcohol has emerged and gained enormous traction. How did we come to be willing to outlaw alcohol, and what was it like to live through those years of drought? Your guide is "jazzed" to tell you that tale.

The tale of the 18th Amendment is accompanied by a large ensemble of activists, creators, and businesspeople. Learn all about the saloon's one-woman struggle waged by Carry Nation
